VIRTUAL CLASSROOMS

How can you be the best instructor?

In order to be the best instructor you need to choose the right classes and manage the virtual classroom effectively

CHOOSING CLASSES
  • Choose a class that will transfer to the school the student is interested in.

  • Look to see if local schools accept the course.

    • Suggestion: contact the particular college and confirm whether they accept ACE credits and whether the particular course will work for the student’sspecific situation.

  • Consider the skills, interests, and goals of the student.

  • Remember, you can speak with study.com’s guidance experts to get personalized advice.

MANAGING THE CLASSROOM
  • Setting goals and checking in with your scholars is essential to their success.  Meet with each student to develop a timeframe for how long the course will take, how many hours will be dedicated to the course each day/week, when the goal date for taking the credit-granting exam will be, etc., and continue to check in with throughout the course.

  • Tip: Time management is often one of the most difficult things for a student .  A tool that can be helpful in this area, is a study schedule.

To start building a study schedule, study.com’s “study schedule” can calculate how many hours are necessary to finish a course by a specific date.  Once a time-frame has been established, you can help the student build a routine plan for each study session, perhaps with a checklist.   Click below to see an example.  Helping a student map out a study schedule with particular objectives to be reached each study session, is critical for their success!

  • Tip:  As students work through their course, they can email their test/quiz results to you, so that you can keep track of their progress.

DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP & RESPONSIBLE USE
  • Establishing, communicating, and reinforcing student expectations for using the digital classroom is critical.  Parameters for exploring digital resources and using school-issued devices properly must be in place in order to manage the digital classroom effectively.

  • Tip:  Create a responsible Use Policy that students will agree to (see resource below)
